What is a carbon footprint?

Ziya P

A carbon footprint is the total greenhouse gas emissions caused by an individual, event, organization, service, place, or product.

It is not only the things we consider ' hazardous' which have a carbon footprint. A carbon footprint is also created by our out day-to-day live schedule, which we overlook or are unaware of it. For example, if you decide a buy a bottle of water., the carbon footprint of a bottle of water includes the CO2 or CO2 equivalent emitted during the manufacture of the bottle itself, plus the amount emitted during the transportation of the bottle to the consumer.

So, what are the effects of carbon footprint and, how can we reduce it?

The amount of carbon emission trapped in our atmosphere causes global warming, which ultimately causes climate change, and we all know that climate change is one of the biggest threats we are facing.

The symptoms of climate change are dreadful, sure to send shivers down your spine, melting of the polar ice caps, rising sea levels, disturbance of natural habitats, extreme weather conditions, depletion of natural resources, countless health problems, and much more.

But if we all work together, we can do it; we can reduce the carbon footprint hence saving millions of lives.

Here are some easy ways so to save our planet;

1. Stop buying your water in plastic.

2. Turn off lights and unplug devices when you are not using them.

3. Reduce, reuse and recycle.

4. Eat more food that is grown or made locally.

5. Walk if your destination is short.

TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
