Much of our energy comes from non-renewable sources such as oil, coal, and natural gas. These sources can be grouped together under a branch known as fossil fuels. Burning fossil fuels for energy is extremely bad for the environment. Greenhouse gases from burning fossil fuels contribute greatly to global warming. The effects of this can be seen in Antarctica, where gigatons of ice have melted.
We are quickly depleting our resources, but there are ways to solve this problem. A move to more renewable energy sources like nuclear, wind, and solar energy would help in the long term. Additionally, we have the gift of time as the drastic effects like sea level rise won’t happen for quite some time. It is important to stay hopeful and continue to play our part by encouraging higher ups to take action. In conclusion, as fossil fuels run out we must look to new and better solutions like clean energy.
