Water Scarcity

Anonymous

Water scarcity is a huge problem that cannot be ignored. It may seem strange since most of our planet is covered in water. However, only 3% of all the water can be used by humans. Nearly 1 billion people, which is 1/7th of the global population lack good access to clean water. This situation will only worsen water sources like rivers, lakes, and ponds start to dry up and become polluted.

If we look closely, we find that the problem of water scarcity is an environmental one. We pollute hundreds of water sources with the use of fertilizer, chemical waste, and industrial waste. Another reason is our modern agricultural practices, which use up large amounts of water, and many of this water is wasted. Growing crops in places where they are not meant to be grown causes the ground to dry up. Water scarcity is a huge problem. For many people in developed countries, this problem may seem far away like in the drought struck areas of Africa. However, these problems will slowly catch up to even the developed world.
