Now that more and more Covid-19 restrictions and bands are being lifted all over the world (especially the United States), the question of traveling once again is brought up. One major source of pollution is tourism and traveling, in many different aspects. From flying to the ground, many different forms of pollution are brought upon the Earth, and now that restrictions have been lifted, will we see a surge in those numbers?
Even before the pandemic, people all over the world have been flying to major cities, such as New York City, Paris, London, and more. With that being said, these people bring a lot of physical baggage with them, and resort to littering and misplacing items, which can be harmful to the animals in the environment.
Because of the pandemic, individuals who travel are required to wear a mask, so we have definitely seen an increase in the misplacement of disposable masks. Air travel exerts carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, which is of course dangerous to us. Now that air travel is coming back, we will definitely see a negative impact in the very own air we breathe in.
Overall, the pandemic has had its highs and lows. Now that more and more people are getting vaccinated, life is getting back to “normal.” But, our “normal” shouldn't be hurting the only planet we live on.
