Hurricane Ida: What Can We Do?

As Hurricane Ida is rapidly approaching and impacting the East Coast of the United States, many questions are raised on how hurricanes impact our environment. The aftermath of hurricanes can be felt in many different spheres of our environment, such as humans, animals, nature, and the overall atmosphere.

The strong winds that come from hurricanes have the possibility of hurting land animals and destroying the habitats of these animals. As a result, these ecosystems are destroyed. Luckily, we do have organizations that protect these animals when tragedies such as hurricanes occur, such as wildlife services.

Hurricanes could also destroy energy facilities, such as powerlines, which leave ordinary people without any power. Food and supply shortages are also low when hurricanes occur, which is quite similar to how supplies were low in the beginning of the pandemic. Along with these, people also waste supplies which can lead to land pollution, as people’s trash begin to accumulate.

Another effect of hurricanes is flooding, which has many negative impacts. Flooding could destroy our homes, could potentially kill us, and hurt our environment. How does flooding hurt our environment? Well, intense rainfall is difficult for any land-animal to adjust to, along with their habitat, so it could cause mass destruction and chaos, as different species scramble to either build new homes or migrate.

Overall, the effects of hurricanes can be felt in many different ways in the environment. It is truly up to us to help the people and animals around us. Pritheva Z
