Polar bears depend on a high calorie diets in order to meet their energy needs.
Many polar bears spend hours waiting by holes in the sea ice waiting for a seal to come by. The bear then stuns its neck and then drags it by its neck. This process is very time consuming and it means that polar bears also need a lot of energy
Climate change causes the sea ice to melt at an exceptionally fast rate. Since there is less ice there is less space for polar bears to hunt. This means that polar bears must spend large amounts of time traveling to different areas to hunt. The bears burn through a a lot of calories doing this because their lives are usually sedentary and they do not have to move a lot. Studies done on polar bears in the arctic show that the bears lost many pounds of weight moving around on the ice.
The polar bears natural habitat is being threatened by climate change and the melting sea ice. They are literally starving to death.
