As we near the one year anniversary of Covid-19, thousands and thousands of people all over the world have started receiving the vaccine. Many companies such as Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer have been permitted by the FDA to administer the vaccine. This is definitely a step in the right direction to keep people safe, but what is the cost?
The disposal of the vaccine and its supplies can be dangerous to our environment. This also brings up the fact of disposing unusable blood and other bodily necessities in the medical field. We already have an issue of people not disposing masks properly, and now we have this to add on too.
This isn't a new revelation though. Hospitals and institutions involved with transfusing blood and things of such have had to learn how to properly dispose of it, and if there was ever an occurrence where that blood spilled near water or any source that is accessible to the public, there would be much controversy. Not only would there be controversy, but it could seriously damage the physical environment. It could destroy or pollute habits such as bodies of water if blood ever got there. Animals such as birds can get tangled in band-aids and things of such, or worse yet, swallow it.
There is no other solution than to be careful. As more and more people receive the vaccine, we need to make sure they are disposing the materials properly. Otherwise our environment will respond in a negative manner.
