Coral Bleaching

Writer's picture: carbon footprintcarbon footprint

All around the world, coral reefs have turned porcelain white due to a strange phenomenon. This phenomenon is known as coral bleaching.

The reason that this occurs is because of the warming of the oceans. If the temperature of water is too large then coral "bleach" themselves by releasing the algae living in their tissues. This is a large problem as coral reefs are a large part of the ocean ecosystem. Thousands of species of sea creatures like various fish, crabs, and turtles all call the coral reef their home.
