Air pollution is one of the most critical pollution problems of all of time. Air pollution is made up of chemicals or particles in the air that are harmful to humans, animals, and plants. Air pollutants are substances that are responsible for air pollution. There are two kinds of pollutants: anthropogenic and natural. Anthropogenic pollutants are caused by human activities or in other words human-made pollutants. And the natural pollutants are pollutants produced naturally by the environment. Anthropogenic pollutants include but are not limited to emissions from factories, cars, aerosol cans, planes, and etc. Additionally, natural pollutants include ashes from volcanoes and wildfires. According to the WHO(World Health Organization), some of the most populated cities in the world are Karachi(Pakistan), New Delhi(India), Beijing(China), Cairo(Egypt), Los Angeles(California). Air pollution doesn’t only happen because of outside substances. Indoor pollution can also play a big part in the overall air pollution. Indoor pollution includes but is not limited to burning kerosene, wood, coal etc. to keep the house warm.
Air pollution can have a variety of effects on our health. These effects can be broken down into short and long term effects. Short term effects include illness such as pneumonia, and bronchitis, headaches, and nausea. Bad smells from factories, sewer, and garbage are also considered air pollution, which doesn’t have any serious effects but can be very unpleasant. Some long term effects can last for years, or lifetime. They can even lead to death. Some long term effects include heart diseases, lung cancer, respiratory diseases. Air pollution can also leave damages to the brain, kidney, nerves, liver, and other organs. Some scientists believe that air pollution can lead to birth defects too. Nearly 2.5 million people worldwide die because of air pollution each year. In conclusion, we have to be more cautious of how we use certain substances that affect our air. We should be aware of ourselves and our surroundings to help the problems of air pollutions as soon as possible before the situation gets out of hand.
